Twenty one players entered the Amazon Room at 2pm PDT to unbag their chips in the $50k HORSE event. It's bubble day as only the final 16 would get paid. For the record, it was nearly an $89k bubble. Not your ordinary bubble!
Donald Key once bubbled the biggest tournament of the year, the $100 No Limit Hold'em with Rebuys at Hollywood Park. (Well, he claims it's the biggest event of the year) He bubbled and missed out on the $888 prize. Mr. Key went into an F-Bomb tirade, can you imagine if he bubbled for $89k after battling for 3.5 days? I guarantee a scene noone would ever forget.
LA Mike's favorite sights and sounds from "Bubble Day":
- Max Pescatori rolled into the Amazon Room as the short stack but was full of confidence. He told NDJ, Jeremiah and I, "I need another FTP patch on my back, I'm going to be here all day!" By the way, Max already had a patch on his chest and his trademark bandana. He was able to take his extreme short stack and double up through Chris Reslock on the very first hand. However, he was crippled about an hour into play by David Singer and subsequently eliminated out of the money.
- Speaking of David Singer, AKA "The Walking FTP Billboard". He did not disappoint today with FTP hat and shirt with logos plastered everywhere. Even a MORAN like LA Mike can figure out Mr. Singer likes FTP. By the way, this is the only event David has entered at this year's WSOP. He's 1 for 1 because he's in the money. He was also spotted eating a Grilled Chicken Caesar salad for the 4th consecutive day. Coincidence, LA Mike thinks not. Eat the chicken caesar salad at the table and cash in tournaments! It's very simple people.
- Best scene of the day was Joe "Pony Jacket" Sebok (which I'll put to rest once and for all, is horribly ugly unless you're an Oregon Duck fan) sprinting over to check on Barry Greenstein. Well, it wasn't really sprinting as Joseph has extremely short legs basically midget-esque. Mr. Sebok had no regard for the ESPN cameras that were rolling as he strolled right up to Greenstein's table for a personal update. Some Story guy told me Sebok was holding a poster saying, "My name's Joe Sebok, put me on TV." I can't confirm however I do know Sebok was successfully battling through his own bubble in the $2k Limit event.
- Gavin Smith is texting me for updates on the HORSE event and on Sebok's progress in the $2k Limit tourney as he's currently on the golf course. I suspect it's sunk into Gav's gigantic dome that he'll be dressing up and carrying Joe in on a throne for the main event.
- Our sympathy goes out to Noah Jefferson who was officially the "Bubble Boy" finishing in 17th place. There was a light applause as he busted but not $89k worthy.
- LA Mike is really surprised actor/part-time player Gabe Kaplan has played so well. He's still going strong at this moment.
- Who knew Amnon Filippi actually had 2 first names? Apparently, people in NYC know him by the name of "Eric the Donkey."
- Speaking of Eric errrrr Amnon, LA Mike knows fashion and that ridiculous NY Yankees hat has to go. It's ugly and oh by the way, they suck really bad! I'm volunteering to burn it for you.
- As I type this up, 14 players still remain and play will continue tonight until they reach the final 8. Everyone is currently guaranteed just over $103k.
- LA Mike's fans have been asking for his prediction on the event. (In between chanting his name, listen closely, can YOU hear them?) After much thought and studying of the play, LA Mike is predicting an "All New York" battle for the championship.
Amnon Filippi heads-up with David "The FTP Walking Billboard" Singer. Good luck fellas, this should be an epic!
Until next time...
